Key responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan, prioritise and execute early-stage biologics drug development with responsibility for antibody discovery, antibody/protein engineering, novel formats, bi-specifics/multi-specifics, protein sciences, structural biology and in-silico modelling
  • Leading and managing a team of protein engineers
  • As part of R&D leadership team responsible for protein engineering activities
  • The role involves being a strategic thinker who brings a leadership presence along with deep scientific knowledge and demonstrated experience in antibody and protein engineering discovery efforts
  • Establishing protocols and pipelines with the PE team to implement effective and novel screening strategies in the discovery of functional agonist antibodies with desirable properties
  • Leading external projects with CRO and/or academics to establish drug discovery pipelines in the generation of novel proteins against target receptors
  • Develop scientist opportunities and career development plans for team members
  • Work closely with the disease biology group to ensure the successful progression of pipeline projects ranging from pre-clinical discovery to clinical proof-of-concept
  • Generate tools and participate in target discovery/validation activities
  • Engineer differentiated lead molecules in-house and with contract research labs including but not limited to antibodies, bispecifics and other alternative formats
  • Responsible for developing new technologies and platforms to stay at the cutting edge of biologics discovery

 

Qualifications and experience:

Essential

  • D. and postdoctoral work in Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular & Cell Biology or similar fields with 12+ years of post Ph.D. experience
  • Extensive experience in overseeing and co-leading projects from discovery to clinical stage
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing multidisciplinary biologics drug discovery teams
  • Extensive experience in engineering and characterization of protein and antibody variants as clinical leads
  • Expertise in biology, immunology, and biochemistry to design and implement functional and cell-based assays to support technology development, antibody selections, and mechanistic studies is desirable
  • Experience and knowledge in molecular biology, protein expression, and purification
  • Successfully collaborated and coordinated activities with external research organisations such as CRO

Strongly desired

  • Previous roles within Biotech/ Pharma
  • Evidence of scientific leadership with publication in top-tier journals
  • Experience with various display technologies (yeast, phage, mammalian)
  • Excellent written, oral, and organizational skill
